Praised as “a bundle of dynamite, combining quiet delicacy with thundering power” (Chicago’s Hyde Park Herald), pianist Anastasiya Magamedova brings an uncompromising intensity to everything she plays, giving rise to performances that are as deeply personal as they are technically commanding.
Recent engagements have taken her to the Kammermusiksaal of the Berlin Philharmonic, Berlin’s Pierre Boulez Saal, Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall, and the Opera and Ballet State Theater of Tajikistan. Her Carnegie Hall debut at Weill Hall in 2014 marked the beginning of a career that has since brought her to concert halls from Central Asia to Europe and the Americas.
Lauded for capturing the “improvisatory feeling” of a piece while navigating its technical demands and sudden mood shifts “with aplomb” (Cleveland Classical), she brings a distinctive spontaneity to a wide range of repertoire. Competition successes include 1st Prize at the International Scriabin Competition in Paris, 2nd Prize at both the International Júlio Cardona Competition in Portugal and the International ArsClassica Competition in Rome, and a Special Chopin Prize at the Concours International Lalla Meryem in Morocco.
As a soloist, Magamedova has appeared with the Utah Symphony, Alicante Philharmonic Orchestra, American West Symphony, and Wratislava Chamber Orchestra. A recipient of the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award, she has been featured on NPR’s From the Top, WFMT Chicago, BYU Radio’s Highway 89, and Générations France Musique le Live.
Magamedova enjoys a long-standing musical partnership with cellist Johannes Gray. Together they are 3rd Prize winners of the 2025 European Chamber Music Competition and have performed across Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East. Supported by the Fondation Banque Populaire, the duo is currently recording their debut album Once Upon a Time… for the Franco-Swiss label Aparté. Since 2020, they have been showcased as young artists of the Scandinavian Cello School (SCS) in Denmark, a relationship that led to their being featured in Where Music Grows, an award-winning feature documentary about the SCS directed by Katrine Philp, which premiered at the CPH:DOX film festival in 2026.
Anastasiya’s festival appearances include IMS Prussia Cove, Piano Texas International Academy and Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, L’Académie musicale de Villecroze, and the International Summer Academy Lüneburger Heide.
Born in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, Magamedova began studying piano at five and went on to graduate with Academic Honors from the Juilliard School, where she studied with Matti Raekallio and Julian Martin. She is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where she has also taken up the study of fortepiano. She was previously mentored by acclaimed pianist Gabriela Montero.
